Birbhum Administration Busts Large Illegal Sand Stockpiles in Major Crackdown
Birbhum: Birbhum district authorities have launched a decisive operation against illegal sand stockpiling at Girajpur and Mollaighat ghats under Md. Bazar police station limits. Acting on specific inputs, police conducted an enquiry under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (D&T). The probe confirmed unauthorised stockpiles, prompting verification by the Civil and Land departments.
The Block Land and Land Reforms Officer, Md. Bazar, certified that no permissions were granted for such activities. A joint inspection team led by Subham Agarwal, IAS, Additional District Magistrate (Land Reforms), and Nilesh Gaikwad, IPS, Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ), along with other officials, measured the stockpiles on Friday.
The entirely illegal accumulation at Girajpur measured 15,85,200 cubic feet, while Mollaighat showed excess stockpiling of 14,89,280 cubic feet beyond permissible limits. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the culprits involved in the sand mafia operations.
