Kolkata: The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) hosted the Education for Viksit Bharat Summit – East India Edition in Kolkata on Friday. The high level dialogue brought together policymakers, industry leaders, academicians and educationists to strengthen industry-academia collaboration for building a future-ready education ecosystem.

Mr Satyam Roychowdhury, Chairman, ICC National Expert Committee on Higher Education & Training and Chancellor, Sister Nivedita University, emphasised in his welcome address that India’s competitive advantage lies in the quality of its human capital. He highlighted the need for holistic learning, digital integration, experiential education and industry-aligned skills to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Mr Brij Bhushan Agarwal, President, ICC, called for greater research, innovation and collaboration between industry and academia. Dr Swapan Dasgupta, Minister-in-Charge, Department of Finance, Government of West Bengal, acknowledged the state’s challenges and stressed the role of the private sector in rebuilding education and creating centres of excellence. Union Minister of State for Education Dr Sukanta Majumdar urged support for the Prime Minister’s mantra of Skill, Scale and Speed to restore Bengal’s past glory.

Prof Chiranjib Bhattacharjee, Vice-Chancellor, Jadavpur University, advocated modernising the education system to harness Bengal’s talent for national development. Mr Parthiv Neotia delivered the vote of thanks, reaffirming ICC’s commitment to partnering with the government for the state’s growth.
