Four Youths Held for Gang Rape of Tribal Girl in Durgapur Forest
Durgapur: Durgapur police have arrested four youths for the gang rape of a tribal girl in a forest near Kamalpur village. The horrific incident occurred on Wednesday night when the girl had gone to a local fair.
According to police sources, the accused lured the girl alone and dragged her into the nearby forest where they allegedly committed the crime. The girl’s family lodged a complaint at Durgapur police station after the matter came to light. She was immediately rushed to Durgapur Sub-District Hospital for treatment and is stated to be stable.
The arrested youths, identified as Ajay Soren, Laxman Rabin Baske, Budhan Tudu and Raju Mandi, are neighbours of the victim. They were produced before the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Court on Thursday, which remanded them to six days of police custody.
Officers are probing if more persons were involved in the case. Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate Deputy Commissioner (East) Raspreet Singh confirmed the arrests and said the investigation is continuing.
